The Importance of The "Why"

As a small business owner, what you do is important to you for many & varied reasons. Your business is your livelyhood, and likely your passion, and you've certainly made sacrifices to succeed. As you create and curate content for your social media campaigns, the challenge is how to make the story of your business, and most importantly the "Why" of your business, as compelling to your customers as it is to you.

A few months ago, my friends at Pizza Pi shared the above video with me, a Tedx Talk from 2009 in which Simon Sinek discusses the ways in which great leaders inspire action. The intervening years have in no way lessened the impact of his words. Indeed, the Golden Circle of "what", "how", and "why" businesses do what they do remains incredibly relevant in today's world.

As Sinek points out, all businesses know what they do. Good businesses know how they do it. Great businesses & brands sell the "why" of what they do. The "why" is what makes you and your company consistently compelling and relevant to your customers, and this is what you should strive to convey with your social media content.
